support communities

I've seen a lot of people mentioning that various support communities were terminated as part of this purge. I haven't actually seen a citation of which ones, in particular, were taken down. I think it is reasonable that the actual pro-child-molestation communities were terminated, as they were actually inciting predation. It is unreasonable that the fic communities were terminated, but for some reason wfi seems to think that those communities were also inciting predation by simply writing fic potentially including descriptions of what would be illegal predation in RL. They've indicated that support groups were specifically not targeted by their actions.

So, it follows that the support groups were specifically fallout that they weren't intending. As such, knowing what support groups were terminated as a result of their actions might be a start in countering this action.

Therefore, specifically what support groups were terminated?

I found this listing, whose membership includes members of wfi, listing the following communities as banned or otherwise gone, apparently as a result of their efforts. The second paragraph is a listing of users targeted as well. It is my opinion that anyone on this list who's not guilty pedophilia is a victim of libel.

I read that post. The post itself includes a listing of terminated fiction groups, which I won't copy here because fiction doesn't fall into the support category. The other listing of groups is the "RL" groups. Are any of the following groups support groups?

I haven't heard any confirmation about support groups being banned either, only of personal journals belonging to sex crime victims being suspended (as in the above link).

I've seen so many comments refer to support groups that were deleted, but haven't seen any evidence, either. This concerns me. Spreading unfounded rumors isn't going to hurt our cause. Because even if it is only some fan sites, we still have a legitimate gripe. Also, the large # of sites, 500, is claimed by WFI, and so far I'm not inclined to trust their word.

I've also seen people saying that ALL users/communities with certain interests were deleted, which is just not true as a search for "incest" will clearly show. I still get many results.

However, the fact that you CAN be deleted just for having an interest if someone decides they don't like your comm and reports you is a major problem!

Sorry to be nitpicky, but I think they're victims of slander, not libel. I could be wrong. I had no idea so many people were delted. Although, some of the names you list seem to be active again. That's kind of reassuring, right?

Slander is oral defamation and libel is written defamation.

I don't know if all of these were ever actually deleted, so I don't know if any of them are active again or just never actually got to deletion.

I've only seen individuals state they they were suspended and victims of abuse and had their journal for the purpose of support. I won't name them. That's their call. Not mine. But I have seen the individual post about it on other posts discussing this.

I've heard from a friend who had a journal deleted for that reason that some of her support groups were deleted as well. I've asked her if she might put together a list or have someone else do it and pass it to some of the fandom side of things so that it can get exposure, too.

I personally think this is ridiculous - particularly the coms getting deleted. I mean, nobody FORCES you to join a community if you don't like the main concept. If you're against pedophilia, don't join a community called 'childlove'. It's as simple as that!

If parents want to censor their children's Internet use, they need Parental Blockers. But if you click on something called 'childlove', you can't blame anyone but yourself.

People are entitled to their own Interests. You shouldn't have to censor your Interests on LJ for fear of being deleted - unless you've done something that is against the law, no one can tell you what to read, write, draw, etc. There is a HUGE difference between reading/writing pedophilia, and actually COMMITTING it. Nobody arrests Agatha Christie for writing murder mysteries!

You're reponsable for your Internet use. If you find something you don't like, it's no one's fault but your own. LJ should be a place of free speech.

Sorry if this sounds insulting but you're incredibly misinformed, 'childlove', which I co-moderated, was a debate community. It debated the concept of what loving kids was, and whether or not sex could be loving. Yeah, there were some pedos there, but only 1 of 4 moderators (rookiee, who left before it was even deleted) was a pedo. I'm not (I'm only attracted to 14+ and would only consider sex with 18+), pissi wasn't (just a liberal), and holo wasn't (her mom was with her and she didn't condemn it).

I mean honestly, you don't think there are antiabortioninsts in the 'abortion' community? You don't need to tack a '-debate' suffix or prefix to a name to make it about debating. The info clearly indicated debating.

What I don't get is this whole 'you have no one to blame but yourself' statements you say when you clearly admit there's nothing wrong to be blamed for.

I don't know about the user list, but as for the group list there were 4 that weren't actually suspended when I posted the list and those same 4 are still not suspended, none of the listed groups have been unsuspended.

One of the users that's been suspended (and is on the above list) is a victim of rape and some very serious abuse from her childhood. She talked about it on her LJ but that doesn't make her a freaking pedo. I wish people would actually do a little research into the journals they plan on freaking out over before they actually do anything.
